Candy season is here. The National Confectioners Association says 81% of Americans plan to celebrate Halloween, and 83% of parents admit to sneaking candy from their kids’ haul (NCA). The “favorite candy by state” maps are out too, and DoorDash’s 2026 version puts Reese’s first nationally (Mental Floss).

Maps tell you what a state buys. They don’t tell you what you should grab first. Here’s the bowl, sorted by the six palate types from our scan.

Sucrophile (Type S-1)

Mike and Ike: Movie-theater fruit chews.
Goldbears: The original gummy bear. Firm bite.

Acidophile (Type A-2)

Toxic Waste Hazardously Sour: Comes in a drum. Warning label included.

Amarophile (Type B-3)

Panda Soft Licorice: Real black licorice. You know if you're a fan.
Lindt Excellence 85% Dark: Serious cacao. Barely sweet.
Kopiko Coffee Candy: An espresso in a hard candy.

Fractophile (Type F-4)

Pocky: Japanese biscuit sticks dipped in chocolate or strawberry.
Freeze-dried candy: Taffy and gummies puffed into airy crunch.
Dubai-style pistachio chocolate: Pistachio cream and crispy kataifi. The one TikTok lost it over.

Viscophile (Type V-5)

Lindor Milk Truffles: A shell that gives way to a liquid-smooth center.
Sea Salt Caramel Squares: Dark chocolate with a salted caramel flood.
Hi-Chew: Japanese fruit chew. Softer and juicier than you expect.

Polymodal (Type P-6)

Pulparindo: Tamarind, chili, salt, sugar. Sweet-sour-spicy at once.
Vero Mango chili lollipops: Mango lollipop rolled in chili.
Pop Rocks: It explodes. That's the whole point.
