Netflix's Golden Ticket finale lands Sep 30 and Wonka candy returns in November. Notes from a smaller factory.
The candy-factory fantasy is having a moment. Netflix’s reality competition Wonka’s The Golden Ticket wraps with its finale on September 30, and it has no on-camera host: contestants are guided by an AI recreation of Gene Wilder’s voice, made with his estate’s approval (NBC News). Ferrero, under a deal with Netflix, is bringing Wonka candy back with US limited editions in November (Ferrero).
We love that candy is interesting again. Our version is smaller and a little stranger. There’s no river, no glass elevator and no famous voice. There’s a scanner, and all it wants is your tongue.
What we do have is data. Every scan and every answer tells us something about how people actually taste, and we’re using it to design a candy bar from scratch. When we learn something, we’ll publish it here.
